Parents, Children, Time Away and the Importance of a Limited Power of Attorney

Summer time often brings time with family – and for those with children, time away with one’s spouse while grandma and grandpa enjoy time with the grandkids.  In cases where parents leave their children with other family or friends, I always recommend the drafting of a limited power of attorney for care and custody of a minor child.  A limited power of attorney will give your family or friends the ability to make decisions (financial, medical or both) in the case you are unable to be reached.  No one wants to think about their children being sick or hurt while they are away – but a limited power of attorney can give you the peace of mind to know that whomever is watching your children has the ability to fully care for your children until you can be reached.

If you are interested in having a limited power of attorney drafted, or to discuss a full power of attorney, please contact WMMLegal at our office 804.423.1382 to set up a time to discuss one with one of our lawyers.
